Hello!  Welcome to the Garnet Lewis for State Senate official campaign website.  Whether you are a teacher, public servant, factory worker, farmer, or unemployed, you deserve a voice, a person who will represent your interests in Lansing.  I am that person; I want to be your voice.
I am running for State Senator to help create Michigan’s turn-around.  As your senator, I will fight for increased opportunity for all: educational opportunity, economic opportunity, community opportunity, and personal opportunity.  To succeed, we need to place a high priority on our children’s education.  We need safe, vibrant communities.  And we need to promote an environment that will grow the technologies and businesses of tomorrow.

As your senator, I will focus on the economy, education, and our quality of life.  Economic development will be one of my top priorities in Lansing.  To thrive, we must keep our children, our friends, our neighbors, and ourselves from having to move from mid-Michigan to make a decent living.  We need to keep them in the Great Lakes Bay region with good-paying jobs.
With your support, I look forward to working hard in Lansing to make our great state the best place to live, to raise a family, to retire.

Our region needs a senator who gets it: a senator who knows hard times and hard work; a senator who understands our challenges, who understands the urgency of our situation, who seeks long-term solutions. While families are struggling to make ends meet and while high unemployment and under-employment continue to gouge Michigan’s economy, legislators in Lansing have passed bills that hurt working families, that tax pensions, that defund schools, that lay off police and firefighters, and that slash the earned income tax credit.

We need to stop these attacks on the worker. Our focus must be on job creation, job stability, jobs that pay well, and job training.  It is time for the needs of the people to be put above political games, power grabs, and corporate interests.

As your senator, I will strive to find solutions to reduce Michigan’s high unemployment.  And I refuse to believe that the only way to do that is on the backs of Michigan’s working families.  Michigan workers and their families are the heart and backbone of our great state and our region.

I am eager to take my experiences as an investor and business owner, a life-long educator, a committed community volunteer, and an activist to Lansing to represent YOU in the State Senate and put Michigan back to work.
